The Council President was selected by the Council. Therefore, the office of mayor was abolished which made Christianson the last serving mayor of the city. In 1949, Christianson was appointed to the Municipal Retirement Fund Board of Trustees for the State of Wisconsin. In the 1960s he served as the President of the Shriners Club. Christianson went on to serve as a member of the City Council in the 1970s.
